By Ceci Budoir | San Diego boudoir photographer
Preparing for a San Diego boudoir photo shoot can feel both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. But here’s the truth — your session at Ceci Boudoir is all about celebrating you. That means showing up as your authentic, confident self. To help you feel absolutely radiant, I’ve put together a list of tried-and-true preparation tips. Think of this as your self-care checklist to ensure you look and feel incredible on the day of your shoot.
Pamper Yourself Before Your Session
Every woman’s self-care routine looks different, so I’m not here to tell you exactly what you need. Instead, consider this a little guide to help you get ready to look and feel your best:
1. Prioritize Your Beauty Sleep
No amount of Photoshop can replace the natural glow that comes from feeling well-rested. Make sleep a priority in the days leading up to your session. Your skin, mood, and energy will thank you.
2. Treat Yourself to a Mani-Pedi
Your hands and feet will make plenty of cameos in your photos. Whether you love a classic nude or a bold red, fresh nails are always a good idea. Try to get your manicure and pedicure a day or two before your shoot.
3. Hydrate Inside and Out
Glowing skin starts with hydration. Drink plenty of water the week before your session, and don’t forget to moisturize morning and night. On the day of your shoot, use a non-bronzer, illuminating lotion for a subtle, radiant glow. (Trust me, avoid tinted lotions or anything that could transfer onto the lingerie.)
4. If You Wax, Time It Right
Waxing can leave your skin a little irritated, so I recommend scheduling any waxing treatments 3-5 days before your session. This gives your skin time to calm down.
5. Shave Wisely
If shaving is part of your routine, do it the morning of your shoot. This keeps your skin smooth and fresh without any redness.
6. Say No to Spray Tans
This is a big one. Please, please skip the spray tan. Even if you can’t see streaks with your eyes, my camera will. Worse, spray tans can sometimes show up orange or patchy in the final images. Let your natural skin tone shine — trust me, you’ll look gorgeous.
7. Keep Your Hair Fresh, Not New
Got roots that need a touch-up? Go for it. But now isn’t the time to try a brand-new haircut or hair color. Stick with the styles and colors that you know you love and feel confident in.
The Day of Your Shoot
The big day is here, and it’s all about you. Here’s how to show up feeling comfortable and confident:
1. Arrive with a Fresh Face
Skip the makeup — I’ve got a pro makeup artist ready to pamper you. Just come with clean, moisturized skin.
2. Dry Hair, No Products
Your hair should be clean and dry, but avoid any styling products before your session. This helps us achieve the best possible styling without any grease or flakes.
3. Wear Loose, Comfy Clothes
On your way to the studio, choose the baggiest, most comfortable clothes you own. This prevents any tight marks or indentations from bras or underwear that could show up in your photos.
4. Be Punctual, but Don’t Rush
Running late is a recipe for stress. Plan ahead so you can arrive on time and with a relaxed mindset. This is your experience, and I want it to feel empowering, not rushed.
